Design and Technology at Stockton Heath Primary School

Chris Downie

Subject Leader: Mrs Downie

At Stockton Heath Primary School, Design and Technology encourages children to learn to think and intervene creatively to solve problems both as individuals and as members of a team. We encourage children to use their creativity and imagination, to design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts, considering their own and others’ needs, wants and values. We aim to, wherever possible, link work to other disciplines such as mathematics, science, engineering, computing and art. The children are also given opportunities to reflect upon and evaluate past and present design technology, its uses and its effectiveness and are encouraged to become innovators and risk-takers. Children will be exposed to a wide range of media including textiles, food and woodwork; through this, they will develop their skills, vocabulary and resilience.

Progression in Design and Technology

Progression in DT is mapped out against our Areas of Learning; these can be found below to show the progression from EYFS to Y6.

Knowledge Organisers

Class teachers have developed Knowledge Organisers for each of their DT topics. These help us to address children's prior learning, vocabulary, core knowledge and key concepts for each of our DT topics throughout school. These are regularly being updated, added and revised to ensure the very best outcomes in our DT curriculum. Please check back for more soon.
