Illness, absence and punctuality

Attendance and Punctuality

Good attendance and punctuality are vital to your child's progress. Please notify the school by telephone as soon as possible if your child is going to be absent or late. We will follow up on any unexplained absence or lateness with a phone call. School attendance is a legal requirement and is enforced by Warrington Borough Council.

  • All children need to be in school for registration at 8:45-8:50am.
  • Children arriving after 8:50am must report to the school office and will receive a late mark.

If your child needs to leave school during the day to attend an appointment, please let us know by telephone.

Illness
When a child is obviously unwell, the best place to be is at home with an adult. If a child becomes ill during the school day, we will contact parents/carers (or the listed emergency contact) for your child to be collected from school.

If the illness is infectious, other children and teachers may also become ill, so the child must be kept at home. Should your child have an infectious illness, tell us as soon as this has been confirmed by a doctor.

Please refer to the following guidance from Public Health England with regards to exclusion periods for different infections. Please note that not all infections require a period of absence from school, so it is vital that parents refer to the exclusion table or contact the school office for more advice.

Sickness & Diarrhoea

Based on the information shared on the Public Health England Website, children should not return to school until they have been free of symptoms for 48 hours and feel well. We appreciate that this is inconvenient in many cases and you may not believe your child is ill, but you will appreciate that we do this in all cases and it should reduce the risk of infection for all children in school.

Further guidance on infection control may be found on the Public Health Website.

Holiday Requests

Pupils attend school for 190 days per academic year. Regular attendance is vital to your child's ongoing academic progress. Parents must not take children on holiday during term time.

If you feel that you have no choice but to take your child on a holiday during term time please put your request in writing to Mr Harding and send to the following email address: stocktonheath_primary_head@sch.warrington.gov.uk

Please note that Mr Harding will only agree to holiday requests in very exceptional circumstances otherwise it will be treated as an unauthorised absence.
